Are you interested in starting your career as a Reformer instructor, or deepening your prior learning?
Fluidform Reforming Training launching on April 3rd encompasses five workshops, guiding you through a complete training course to become a qualified Reformer instructor. This journal we take a closer look on what makes teaching Reformer so rewarding, engaging and beneficial in your pilates repertoire.
What is Reformer Pilates?
Did you know? Reformer Pilates was originally designed for rehabilitation and created to build strength and flexibility to improve your clients form and technique on the mat.
Reformer Pilates uses a Reformer machine to help assist your client to move into specific positions and perform specific exercises that without the machine, would not be possible. The machine involves a moving carriage, attached to springs and straps to provide resistance and support. The Reformer teaches your client to feel movement in a new and unique way.
What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
The combination of moving with assistance, against resistance, pushing, pulling, controlling and holding allows for greater freedom of movement. The reformer machine is versatile in that movements can be performed standing, sitting, lying and balancing allowing for a greater range of movements. It has the ability to replace nearly every piece of equipment you can find in the gym. This continues to challenge the most advanced clients. Incremental adjustments to the springs has a significant impact on the strength and engagement required to perform exercises. This brings benefits to strength, flexibility and balance.
Reformer pilates is unique in that while it will continue to challenge the most advanced clients, it is particularly beneficial for people recovering from injury or Pilates beginners as the machine helps to support the client to move with confidence.
The key benefits to Reformer Pilates:
- New muscle discover and engagement
- Increased strength
- Increased tone
- Improved flexibility
- Deeper core connection
- Postural alignment
- Improved balance and coordination
Fluidform and specifically Reformer workouts strengthen your muscles through repetitive eccentric muscle contractions – which means your clients muscles are working against resistance or with tension in a lengthened position.
The key to creating a good reformer workout is the correct springs, it is not always a heavy spring that makes a movement more challenging.
Our Fluidform movements are functional and support your clients daily lives. They are designed to realign, strengthen and challenge your clients.
How can you prepare your clients for Reformer workouts?
The best way to prepare your client for Reformer workouts is to teach them the key basics of the Reformer. This includes the straps, the footbar settings, the head and shoulder rests and most importantly the spring settings. Most Reformers are similar, but they all have their different settings. It is important to understand the Reformer you are using settings to move safely and get the most out of your workout.
